Richard Strauss’ Salomé

Richard Strauss' Salomé

Strauss's one-act modernist opera of 1905, with a libretto based on the German translation of Wilde's 1891 play, tells the story of Salomé whose fascination with the imprisoned prophet Jochanaan turns to obsession and tragedy. It is known for its intense drama, rich orchestration and the famous Dance of the Seven Veils.

The cast includes Netta Or as Salomé and Joseph Lia as Jochanaan, under guest conductor Barry Kolman, with a reduced orchestration by Nigel Shore. The performance takes place on the Main Stage.

One night only, so book well ahead, and dress smartly as Maltese audiences take the Manoel seriously. A 25% discount is offered when also buying a ticket for the Oscar Wilde play.
